Walmer Road Water Street Walmer
Found in Pigot's directory of 1828 and 1832, but not to be mistaken for the "Duke of York" also in Walmer Road, as both of these are found in the same directory and with different licensees. Information of the pub inside the "Stag" says the building was erected in 1715 and was originally two separate houses, both owned by a Sea Captain of the HM Royal navy called Isaac Vincent. However, records don't show the building being in it's current position till about 1750. Earliest definite mention being 1815 when the premises was two houses, those being knocked into one in 1832. About this time the pub changed name to the "Stag."
