Unknown Pub Sign 85 | ||||
Medway
Originally thought to have been the sign for the "Prince Albert" in Ashford, but Steve R Salter pointed out to me that that pub had never been a Whitbread tied house. Originally a Westerham Ales House and later supplied by Ind Coope before being closed in 2008. The sign is currently (2019) being owned and stored in a Chart Sutton Antiques shop. Rory Kehoe suggests that due to the shape of the sign it was most likely originally a Fremlins sign that was over-printed when they were taken over. Furthermore, the shape is the same as some Fremlin overpaints of Leney's (Dover) signs. This suggests that the sign hung outside a former Leney's house, or a Flint's (Canterbury) house - Leney's took over Flint's in 1923. The Prince Albert was likely to have been in somewhere in East Kent then. The "Prince Albert" in Deal would probably fit the above. Paul Skelton. Michael Mirams to the rescue again, it's the "Prince Albert" in Faversham.
