Market Place Dover
Previous to 1600 this was called the "Bull" and I believe was the forerunner of the "Guildhall Vaults". It can certainly be traced to 1690. It had a large assembly room at the back for meetings and concerts. A passage, used for the movement of French prisoners, ran from here to the Western Heights. John Batchelor was the mayor of Dover in 1600-01 and kept this tavern in that year
