PUB LIST PUBLIC HOUSES Paul Skelton

Earliest 1661

Hamborough Castle

Latest 1668+

(Name to)

41 Beach Street

Deal

The Sandwich Borough Records shows Licensed Victuallers who paid for new Inn signs, 6s. 8d, and Sureties of £5 on 12th September, 1662. This public house was one of those in the list.

During its existence it was also  spelt the "Hamborror Arms."

Mentioned in the will of Constant Woodman in 1679, but the next reference found is in a lease of 1727 when it was identified as having changed name to the "Cross Keys," I believe this had happened by 1668, as there is reference in the will of Joan Mumbray 1668 - Left to Susan, daughter, my part of the house called "Crosskeys" and £20.

Later still it changed name again becoming the "Union Flag" by 1727.
