A license was granted to the "Marquis of Wellington" in 1815.

Wellington wasn't made Marquis till 1813, so this pub may have had another name prior to that year as the building is shown to be much older.

Changed name to the "Earl Grey" in 1836.

Marriage: April 10, at St. Mildred's Church, Canterbury, Mr. Joseph Earl to Mrs. Ann Earl, landlady of the Marquis of Wellington, Folkestone.

Note: Seems to indicate that Ann Earl took over the Marquis of Wellington following the death of Edward Earl in 1828.

Death.

November 30th Mrs Earl, wife of Mr. Earl, of the Earl Grey public house in her 55th year.
