43 High Street Canterbury
The two photos above show that the pub has been served by both Rigden's and also the Mackeson Brewery during it's time. I have managed to trace the premises from between 1881 and 1909 at present. However, it has been referred to as both the "New Crown" and also "Old Crown," but they are definitely the same pub. There being a large gap between the pub then and as it is today, (2012) operating as the "Cuban." According to the notes found on the "Poem of Canterbury" document, the "Old Crown" was simply called the "Crown" till 1874. The 1888 advert below states that it had also been known as "Newport's" or "Cowel's Wine and Spirit Stores." I assume Newport and Cowel being the proprietors or licensees, but have no dates for these as yet.
I also have mention regarding offices of the Kent Messenger, but don't know in what context.
