MARGATE

William F. Duckett of the “Clifton Arms”, Clifton Street, Margate, was summoned for having on July 11th unlawfully sold to William Epps, a pint of beer at a price in excess of the maximum price allowed under the Beer (Prices and Description) Order 1918. He was further summoned for having unlawfully, between July 4th and July 11th, sold beer not of the quality and substance demanded contrary to the said Order. The evidence showed that the defendant charged Epps 6d for a pint of bitter beer, which was an excessive price. He admitted adding some water to the beer sold between the 4th and the 11th. The defendant was fined £15 in each case or a total of £30.
