Originally titled the "King's Head," and later the "Queen's Head," the premises was referred to the Compensation Committee and closed as a public house on 31 December 1914.

May 1917 a fire destroyed the outbuildings and three separate fire engines were called to help extinguish the flames, one of them being the Walmer fire brigade, this being their first call.

1921 saw the premises reopen, this time as the "Old Comrades Club," a fore-running of its name today, that being the "Royal Marines Association Club," but it is believed to have continued under its old name till 1938.

I have just found the photo below, indicating that the premises was also used for the Deal Angling Club.

Deal Angling Club

That club was formed in 1919 but had to give up during WW2, but was reformed again in 1946, so this may give some indication of the date the photo was taken.
