The information below has been found in Michael David Miriams book "Kent Inns and Inn Signs."

The "Chequer" can be dated back to the late 16th century but changed name to the "Gun Inn" later in it's life. It is suggested the name of change happened around 1700.

Around the early 1800's it changed name yet again, this time to the one it ended it's life as... The "Star."
