The information below has been found in Michael David Miriams book "Kent Inns and Inn Signs."

 

Previous to the "Gun Inn" the pub was called the "Chequer" and can be dated back to the late 16th century under that name.

Around the early 1800's and certainly before 1851 it changed name yet again, this time to the one it ended it's life as... The "Star."

 

From the Kent Herald, 20 June 1833

Faversham

George Bonner, of the "Gun," Faversham, in acknowledging with gratitude the patronage he is enjoyed for the last 33 years at the above house, begs to inform his friends that he has declined the business in favour of his son, George Bonner, for whom he respectfully solicits a continuance of their favours.

Good beds and stabling.

Faversham, June 17th, 1833.
