Starting life as the "Institute Shades" in 1846, the pub changed name some time between that year and 1920 to the "Grand Bars" and operating under that guise till 1953 when it again changed names to the "Call Boy," it remained with that name till 2010 when it was renamed "Bar Liquorice" for two years. Then for a short time to the "End," after May 2012 saw its latest change to "Angels," and advertised as "The GAYEST place in town."

Closed some time in 2013 and it appears the freehold of the building is now up for sale being advertised as an investment/ development opportunity, flats etc. so it looks unlikely to re-open.

How wrong can I be? Latest information found, August 2015 says it reopened as "Tower Place." But 2016 even that appears to be closed again.
