Kentish Gazette, 18 April 1854.
Richard Thomas Hart, formerly living at the "Duke on Horseback,"
High-street, Woolwich, carpenter and joiner, afterwards of the
Queen's Bench Prison, a prisoner for debt, and lastly, of the
"Cock," Wilmington, near Dartford, licensed victualler, carpenter
and joiner, applied to be discharged. Mr. Reid supported the
insolvent. A creditor opposed on several grounds. After a lengthy
examination by the creditor, with a view to show fraudulent
preference and the obtaining goods under false pretences, his Honour
ordered the insolvent to be discharged, remarking that he did not
think there was a tittle of evidence adduced to substantiate the
allegations of the detaining creditor.

From an email sent on 17 August 2019.
Martin Archer kindly sent me the following information:-
Following the census sheets backwards and forwards it would appear
that the "Game Cock" came after a row of houses called the Retreat
(which is still there) and after another row of cottages called Prospect
Place also on the census there is also reference to the "Eagle"
beerhouse on the 1891 census which may have been attached to the Eagle
farm (Alfred Casselton a labourer is down as the owner) all of the
mentioned buildings fall before the "Plough"
which is further on. |
