Kent Herald, 19 June 1845.

Rochester Chatham, &c. Suspicious Case.

On Friday afternoon, a soldier, belonging to the 72nd regiment, was found under the bed at the "Shipwrights' Arms," Westcourt Street, Brompton, in a perfect state of nudity, and in a very filthy condition, from head to foot. He was jammed so tight under the bed, that it was with difficulty two men could drag him out. He was alive, but totally unconscious.

Dr. Weeks was immediately sent for, and recommended his removal to the Military Hospital, where every means were used for his restoration, but he never rallied.

It's appears that he had slept at the house on the previous nights with a girl of the town, but had left in the morning, but returned again of at about noon, and requested permission of the landlord to go up into his bedroom, which he allowed him to do, and at about five he was found in the state above described.

There is no doubt he had been fully dealt with, but by whose hands remains to be proved. It appears that the regiment to which the deceased belonged is now in India, and that himself and a corporal have lately arrived in this country on the recruiting service.
