From an email received 13 August 2023.

Hi,

I emailed previously about the "British Museum" Public House. My Uncle had told me it was opposite the Queen Street Chapel in Chapel Street. I have been unable to find any information about it so looked on the 1911 census and discovered the pub was called the "Railway Tavern." I then read the following in English Heritage’s survey of London.

“The British Museum stood opposite the Queen Street Chapel…..”

All I can think is that the "Railway Tavern" changed it’s name to the "British Museum" sometime after 1911.

If I discover anything more I will let you know.

Regards,

Lesley Bryant.
