Originally called the "Red Lyon" this house on the Dover Road changed name again to the "Hovelling Boat" in 1798.

William Moon appeared and prayed to have the licence granted to William Palmer at the "Pack Horse" ("Red Lyon" deleted) assigned over to him, which was granted on his entering into a recognisance with two sureties pursuant to the late Act of Parliament, when he proposed William Palmer and George Boxer, who were accepted.
