RURAL LICENSEES MEET
Mr. A. E. Giles, of the "Plough Inn,"
Ripple, was unanimously re-elected Chairman of the Wingham and District
Licensed Victuallers Association at the annual meeting at his house on
Monday. Mr. E. Curling, of the "Five
Bells," Eastry, was re-elected Vice-Chairman, and Mr. T. Gibbens,
The "Volunteer," Ash, Hon.
Treasurer. Owing to health reasons, the Hon. Secretary, Mr. George
Borrett, of The "Anchor,"
Littlebourne, is resigning but will continue until a successor is
appointed.
The new Committee elected comprises: Messrs. A. B. Clayson, "Crown
Inn," Eythorne; Mr. C. Munday, "Sportsman's
Arms," Barham; J. Murphy, "Woodman's
Arms," Barham; S. Pitts, "Eight
Bells," Wingham Well; and F. York, "Rice
Arms," Tilmanstone.

Buried Beer
Workmen engaged in enlarging the bus-park in Pencester Road this week
had an unexpected find - a half-pint bottle of Fremlinlight ale,
buried two feet below the ground.
"I examined the find and found it to be in an excellent state of
preservation," commented Mr. H. S. Price, East Kent Traffic
Superintendent at Dover.
Two houses which stood on this site were wrecked by a bomb in April,
1942.

Licence Change
At the Wingham Sessions, Canterbury. The East Kent Confirming
Authority confirmed the grants by the respective licensing justices of
publicans' licences for the "First
and Last," Ash, and the Hazling Dane Country House Hotel,
Shepherdswell, of a wine licence for the "Woodman's
Arms," Bridge, and a wine and spirits licence for the Lancaster
Stores, Capel-le-Ferne.

Public Houses Change Hands
Dover Magistrates on Friday granted full transfer of licences of four
public houses and the Car Ferry Terminal restaurant. All had been
previously granted provisional transfers.
They were: "British Queen," from
W. A. Lambkin to Kenneth L. Bloor; "Prince
Alfred," from A. J. Porter to Jack Culley; "Red
Cow," from P. J. Ditton to E. R. O'Neill; "Trocadero
Bars," from R. Eynon to Robert Gascoign; and the "Merry
Dolphin Restaurant," at the Terminal, from Captain R. W. Cooke to G.
E. Graham Lyon.
The magistrates also agreed to the carrying out of proposed
structural alterations to the private and public bars at the "King
Lear."

The following licence transfers were approved at Wingham Sessions at
Canterbury last Thursday. "Green Man,"
Shatterling, from Frederick G. Perkins to Sidney Curtis; "Bull's
Head," Adisham from Mrs. Fanny Pooley to David H. Sinclair; "Yew
Tree," Barfrestone, from Cyril B. Elvey to William Humphrey;
off-licence, Adisham, from Mrs. Mary Cork to Austin M. Wilson.
