INTRODUCTION
From between 4th April 1979 and 26 June 1981 the South Kent Gazette later to run concurrently with the Dover Express, Bob Hollingsbee published an update of John Bavington Jones' "Perambulation of Dover," published in 1907. During that time, I had just started my first job as workshop technician at the Dover Grammar School for Boys and decided to start a collection of these pages that appeared in the above papers. I have had these papers since then, knowing that one day they would be a valuable resource for local history of Dover. The only other collection of these I have seen are at the Dover Library in their archives section, but believe they are getting rather dog-eared and well-thumbed. With technology as it is, and my interest in computing and the history of Dover (usually the public houses) I decided almost 40 years later to convert these papers into a digital form that is both easy to navigate, and instantly searchable, so hence this part of my web site has gone live on 1st August 2017. The following pages have been reproduced word for word (with the odd word correction where the typesetter made a mistake) in its entirety and in the same order as it first appeared in the above papers. However, as time progresses I would dearly love to add further pictures or indeed better pictures than I have managed to do from the paper scans. In some cases I have managed this, but would love you to also help out with this ongoing project. If you have any photos you think would better replace or add to the text on the following pages, please email me at the address below and I'll add your contribution in the suggested places. Over to you, and I look forward to hearing from anyone willing to help.
